Thio
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012005
A prefix used in chemical nomenclature to indicate the replacement of an oxygen atom by a sulfur atom in a functional group or compound. For example, an alcohol (R-OH) becomes a thiol (R-SH), and an ether (R-O-R') becomes a thioether (R-S-R'). This prefix is widely used to denote sulfur-containing analogues of oxygen compounds.
