Thioketone S-oxides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012014
Compounds of the form R2C=S=O, the S-oxides of thioketones, formerly called sulfines, in which both R groups are organic substituents rather than hydrogen. The C=S=O unit is a heterocumulene, comparable to the C=C=O unit of ketenes. Many are stable and isolable, and thiobenzophenone S-oxide, made by oxidising thiobenzophenone, is a classic example.
