Nitrile oxides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007955

Unsaturated 1,3-dipolar compounds containing a nitrogen atom triply bonded to a carbon atom, which is also bonded to an oxygen atom. These species are characterized by resonance forms that distribute positive and negative charges across the C-N-O framework. Nitrile oxides are highly reactive intermediates, frequently employed in 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions to synthesize five-membered heterocycles like isoxazoles.
