Azomethine ylides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001054

A class of 1,3-dipolar compounds characterized by a nitrogen-carbon double bond with an adjacent carbanion, forming a C=N+-C- system. These species are highly reactive and are widely employed in 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions to synthesize five-membered heterocyclic rings. They can be generated from imines or by ring opening of aziridines.
