Phosphonium ylides

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008782

Neutral dipolar compounds containing a positively charged phosphorus atom directly bonded to a negatively charged carbon atom. The carbon atom bears at least one hydrogen atom or an organic substituent. These species are highly reactive and serve as key intermediates in the Wittig reaction, forming carbon-carbon double bonds.
