Phosphonium compounds
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008781
Organic phosphorus compounds featuring a positively charged phosphorus atom bonded to four organic groups or hydrogen atoms. These compounds are salts containing a phosphonium cation, R4P+, and an anion. They are commonly employed as phase-transfer catalysts and as intermediates in organic synthesis, particularly in the Wittig reaction.
