Acid precipitation

Rain, snow, fog, or dust that is more acidic than normal, primarily due to atmospheric pollution. It forms when sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form sulfuric and nitric acids. The pH of acid precipitation is typically below 5.6.
