Side-chain self-assembly

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010845

The spontaneous organization of polymer side chains into ordered, discrete, non-covalently bonded supramolecular structures. This process is driven by specific interactions between the side chains, such as hydrogen bonding, ionic interactions, or solvophobic effects, leading to a well-defined nanoscale morphology. The resulting structures can include lamellae, cylinders, or spheres, depending on the chemical nature and architecture of the polymer.
