Side-effect

An unintended and often undesirable effect of a therapeutic agent or intervention, occurring in addition to its primary intended action. These effects can range from mild and transient to severe and life-threatening, influencing patient compliance and treatment decisions. All pharmaceutical products undergo rigorous testing to identify and characterize potential side-effects before regulatory approval.
