Critical effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002683
The most sensitive adverse effect of a substance that occurs at the lowest dose or concentration, serving as the basis for risk assessment and regulatory decisions. This effect is considered the limiting factor for safe exposure, as preventing it would also prevent all other, less sensitive effects. Identifying the critical effect is a fundamental step in establishing acceptable daily intakes or exposure limits.
