Threshold

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012026

The dose or exposure concentration of a substance below which no detectable adverse effect is expected to occur in a defined population. At exposure levels below this point, an organism's adaptive and repair mechanisms are sufficient to prevent harm. For non-carcinogenic chemicals, regulatory bodies establish a reference dose or tolerable daily intake based on the threshold identified in toxicological studies.
