Threshold theory
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012033
A concept in toxicology and ecotoxicology proposing that there is a specific level of exposure to a toxic substance below which no adverse effects occur. According to this theory, the organism can detoxify or repair damage caused by the substance up to a certain point. Above this threshold, the capacity for detoxification or repair is overwhelmed, leading to observable toxic effects.
