Siderosis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010847

A form of pneumoconiosis resulting from the inhalation and deposition of iron-containing dust, such as iron oxides, in the lungs. This condition is primarily an occupational disease observed in workers like welders, miners, and metal grinders. Unlike some other pneumoconioses, siderosis is considered benign because the iron particles do not typically cause the extensive scarring or fibrosis associated with exposure to silica or asbestos.
