Hemoglobins
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005196
Metalloproteins found in red blood cells that are responsible for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body and carbon dioxide back to the lungs. Each hemoglobin molecule consists of four polypeptide chains, each associated with a heme group containing an iron atom. The iron atom reversibly binds oxygen.
