Hemoglobinuria

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005197

The excretion of free hemoglobin in the urine, resulting from the intravascular hemolysis of red blood cells. When red blood cells break down within the bloodstream, hemoglobin is released into the plasma and, if present in excess, is filtered by the kidneys and appears in the urine. This condition gives the urine a reddish-brown color and indicates a hemolytic process occurring in the body.
