Urine
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012468
A biological fluid produced by the kidneys through the filtration of blood to remove metabolic waste products and excess water. It is composed primarily of water (about 95%), along with urea, creatinine, uric acid, and inorganic salts. For bioanalytical purposes, urine is a common matrix for monitoring drug metabolites, endogenous biomarkers, and exposure to environmental toxins, with 24-hour collection providing a time-averaged sample.
