Hemolysis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005199
The rupture of red blood cells and the subsequent release of their intracellular contents, primarily hemoglobin, into the surrounding fluid. This process can be induced by chemical agents, physical stress, or biological factors such as toxins or antibodies. In clinical settings, hemolysis can interfere with laboratory test results and indicate underlying medical conditions.
