Cross-matching
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002723
A laboratory procedure performed before a blood transfusion to verify compatibility between a donor's red blood cells and a recipient's plasma. This involves mixing samples of both to detect any agglutination or hemolysis, which would indicate an immune reaction. The major cross-match tests for recipient antibodies against donor red blood cells.
