Natriuretic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007770
Describing a substance or process that promotes the renal excretion of sodium ions, leading to an increase in sodium concentration in the urine. This physiological effect, called natriuresis, is often accompanied by diuresis, an increase in urine volume. Hormones like atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) are endogenous natriuretics that lower blood pressure by reducing blood volume.
