Mechanism-based inhibition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007114
A type of enzyme inhibition where an enzyme converts a substrate analog into a reactive intermediate that then irreversibly inactivates the enzyme. This process, also known as suicide inhibition, involves the enzyme's own catalytic machinery to generate the inactivating species. It is a highly specific form of inhibition often exploited in drug design.
