Scavenger
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010568
A chemical species added to a reaction mixture to remove or deactivate highly reactive intermediates, such as radicals or excited states. By reacting preferentially with these intermediates, a scavenger can inhibit unwanted side reactions or protect desired products. Common scavengers include antioxidants and radical traps.
