Sulfenyl radicals

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011552

Reactive intermediates with the general structure RS•, where the unpaired electron is formally localized on the sulfur atom. These species are derived from the one-electron oxidation of a thiol or a disulfide, or from the homolytic cleavage of a sulfur-containing bond. Sulfenyl radicals are involved in some biochemical processes and polymerization reactions.
