Semiquinones
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010735
Radical anions formed by the one-electron reduction of a quinone or, alternatively, by the one-electron oxidation of a hydroquinone. These species contain an unpaired electron and are intermediates in many biological electron-transfer processes, including photosynthesis and cellular respiration. They are characteristically more stable than many other organic radicals due to resonance delocalization of the unpaired electron and negative charge.
