Activin

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000195

A protein dimer belonging to the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily that regulates a multitude of cellular processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. It is composed of two inhibin beta subunits and functions by stimulating the synthesis and secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the pituitary gland. Beyond its endocrine functions in reproduction, activin is involved in processes such as neuronal development, wound healing, and hematopoiesis.
