Somatomedin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011047
A group of peptide hormones, primarily insulin-like growth factors (IGF-1 and IGF-2), that mediate the growth-promoting effects of growth hormone (somatotropin). These hormones stimulate cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue growth, particularly in cartilage and bone. They are produced mainly by the liver in response to growth hormone stimulation.
