Autocrine
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000966
A mode of cell signaling where a cell secretes a chemical messenger, such as a hormone or growth factor, that then binds to receptors on its own surface, affecting its own function. This self-regulating mechanism allows cells to control their own proliferation or differentiation. Autocrine signaling is observed in processes like immune responses and cancer cell growth.
