Endometrium

The mucous membrane lining the inner wall of the uterus, which undergoes cyclical changes in response to hormonal fluctuations. This tissue provides the site for implantation of a fertilized egg and is shed during menstruation if pregnancy does not occur. Its thickness and structure are regulated by estrogen and progesterone.
