Deciduum

The swelling of the uterine lining at an implantation site, produced as the endometrium reacts to the implanted embryo through decidualization of its stromal cells. It is the decidual tissue of the pregnant uterus, conspicuous around each embryo in rodent pregnancy, and it is expelled with the fetal membranes at birth.
