Decidua

The specialized uterine lining that forms during pregnancy in mammals, originating from the maternal endometrium. It provides nutritional and immunological support for the developing embryo and fetus. This tissue is shed after parturition, either during menstruation in non-pregnant cycles or as part of the afterbirth.
