Aorta-gonad-mesonephros region
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000722
A region of embryonic mesoderm made up of the dorsal aorta, the genital ridges and the mesonephros, which gives rise to the urogenital system and its vasculature. It is the first embryonic site of autonomous hematopoiesis, where hematopoietic stem cells arise from the ventral wall of the dorsal aorta before colonizing the fetal liver and bone marrow. This activity is transient and restricted to mid-gestation.
