Aorta

The principal and largest artery in the body, which conducts oxygen-rich blood from the heart's left ventricle to the systemic circulation. It ascends from the heart, arches over it, and then descends through the chest and abdomen. The aorta is divided into the ascending aorta, aortic arch, and the descending aorta, which itself is subdivided into the thoracic and abdominal sections.
