Natural product

A chemical substance or compound produced by a living organism, found in nature. These compounds are often secondary metabolites, meaning they are not directly involved in the normal growth, development, or reproduction of the organism. Many natural products possess biological activity and have served as sources for pharmaceutical drugs, such as penicillin from fungi or paclitaxel from the Pacific yew tree.
