Primary mixture

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009435

A gas mixture prepared by a gravimetric method, where the mass of each component is precisely weighed to determine its mole fraction. This technique provides high accuracy and traceability, making these mixtures suitable as primary reference standards for calibrating analytical instruments. The uncertainty of the mole fraction in a primary mixture is determined from the uncertainties of the weighing process.
