Metabolism
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007241
The sum of all biochemical processes that occur within a living organism to maintain life. These processes involve the conversion of nutrients into energy, the synthesis of complex molecules, and the elimination of waste products. Metabolism is broadly divided into two categories: anabolism, which builds molecules, and catabolism, which breaks them down.
