Catabolism

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001695

The metabolic pathways that break down complex molecules into simpler ones, releasing energy in the process. These reactions are typically oxidative and exergonic, providing the energy required for cellular activities. An example is the breakdown of glucose into carbon dioxide and water during cellular respiration.
