Anabolism

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000532

The set of metabolic pathways that construct molecules from smaller units, requiring energy in the process. These biosynthetic reactions build complex molecules from simpler ones, such as the synthesis of proteins from amino acids or carbohydrates from sugars. Anabolism contrasts with catabolism, which involves the breakdown of complex molecules.
