Chemical modification
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001955
The alteration of the chemical structure of a polymer after its initial synthesis, typically by reacting functional groups present on the polymer chain with other reagents. This process aims to introduce new properties or enhance existing ones without depolymerizing the main chain. Examples include grafting, cross-linking, and derivatization reactions.
