Surface grafting

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011650

A process where polymer chains are covalently attached to the surface of a substrate, forming a brush-like layer. This modification alters the surface properties, such as wettability, biocompatibility, or adhesion, without changing the bulk material. Surface grafting can be achieved through 'grafting-from' (polymerization from the surface) or 'grafting-to' (attaching pre-formed polymers) methods.
