Chemi-ionization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001981
The formation of an ion through a chemical reaction between neutral atoms or molecules, rather than by direct absorption of radiation or electron impact. This process typically involves a highly energetic collision that leads to the ejection of an electron from one of the reacting species. An example is the Penning ionization, where an excited neutral atom ionizes another neutral species.
