Microscopic diffusion control
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007356
A situation in a chemical reaction where the rate is limited by the diffusion of reactants to the immediate vicinity of each other, rather than by the intrinsic chemical transformation step. This occurs when the chemical reaction itself is very fast. The rate becomes dependent on the local movement of molecules in the solvent cage.
