Precision

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009355

How closely repeated independent results agree with one another when they are produced under stated conditions. It reflects the random error of a measurement process, not its distance from the true value, and is expressed through measures of scatter such as the standard deviation, the variance or the coefficient of variation. Repeatability, the same conditions over a short time, and reproducibility, different laboratories, operators and equipment, mark the two extremes of the conditions under which it is stated.
