Stopping cross section
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011447
A measure of the energy loss per unit path length experienced by an energetic particle traversing a material, divided by the number density of atoms in that material. It quantifies the effectiveness of a material in slowing down incident particles due to inelastic collisions. This value is typically expressed in units of eV cm^2/atom.
