Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004447

Describing a nuclide that can undergo nuclear fission upon bombardment with neutrons of any energy, including thermal neutrons. This property is due to the nuclide's nuclear structure, which allows it to readily absorb a neutron and become unstable. Uranium-235 and Plutonium-239 are common fissile isotopes used in nuclear reactors.
