Nuclide precursor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008149
A radionuclide that decays to produce a specific nuclide of interest, which is referred to as the progeny or daughter nuclide. This decay process can involve a series of transformations before reaching a stable or long-lived nuclide. For example, in radioanalytical methods, technetium-99m is the progeny of its precursor, molybdenum-99, which is supplied in a generator system for medical imaging applications.
