Herz compounds
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005224
A class of cationic heterocyclic compounds, specifically 1,2,3-dithiazolylium salts, which contain a five-membered ring composed of two sulfur atoms, one nitrogen atom, and two carbon atoms. These compounds are typically synthesized via the Herz reaction, where an aniline derivative or a related aromatic amine reacts with sulfur monochloride. The reaction was first described by the chemist Richard Herz in 1922 and provides a route to sulfur-nitrogen heterocycles used as precursors for dyes and other functional materials.
