Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005225

A class of aromatic heterocyclic compounds where one or more carbon atoms in an aromatic ring system are replaced by heteroatoms such as nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur. These compounds exhibit aromatic properties similar to arenes but with modified electronic distributions due to the heteroatoms. Examples include pyridine, furan, and thiophene.
