Cation exchange

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001742

A type of ion exchange process where positively charged ions (cations) in a solution are reversibly exchanged with other cations bound to a solid, insoluble material, known as a cation exchanger. The stationary phase typically contains negatively charged functional groups that attract and bind cations. This process is widely used in water softening, purification, and chromatographic separations.
