Urticaria
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013684
A skin reaction, also known as hives, characterized by the sudden appearance of raised, itchy welts or wheals on the skin's surface. These lesions are caused by the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators from mast cells, leading to localized plasma leakage from small blood vessels. Acute urticaria, lasting less than six weeks, is a common response to allergens in foods, medications, or insect stings.
