Amidium ions
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000487
Cations formed by the protonation of an amide, typically at the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group. This protonation results in a resonance-stabilized species with a positive charge delocalized between the oxygen and nitrogen atoms. Amidium ions are intermediates in many reactions involving amides, such as hydrolysis.
