Nitrilium betaines
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007959
A class of 1,3-dipolar compounds that are resonance-stabilized zwitterionic species with a formal positive charge on a nitrogen atom and a negative charge on an adjacent atom. These compounds contain a C≡N+ bond and an adjacent negatively charged atom, such as oxygen, nitrogen, or carbon. They are reactive intermediates that participate in cycloaddition reactions, leading to the formation of heterocyclic rings.
